Scholarship Winner Profile: Kevin Moffatt

Kevin Moffatt, IABC Saskatoon scholarship winner, graduated from the U of S in June 2018. Kevin worked very closely with Veronique Loewen, our senior delegate on the board, at Orano Canada. Here’s a bit about what he’s up to now.

Q: What was a highlight of working for Orano with Veronique?

It’s been a terrific experience working for Orano Canada as a Communications Intern over the last two and a half years. I originally joined the company through the Edwards Co-operative Education Program from January to August 2016. Since then I have worked both full-time and part time at Orano while finishing school.

Veronique has been a wonderful mentor and leader throughout my time at Orano; I’m so grateful to have learned the ropes of the communications profession through her. At Orano, I was trusted with valuable work from the start. To have developed a wide-range of skill sets in the industry while still in school will be invaluable to my career.

As a two-person communications team, the project that I am most proud of was our work on the Orano Canada 2015, 2016, and 2017 annual sustainability reviews (the 2016 issue won an IABC Gold Quill award in 2018). The project involved dozens of hours in planning and development, writing and storytelling, graphic design, and photography.

Q: Where are you moving, and are you going to work in communications? If so where and doing what?

I am moving to British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan valley. I will continue to work in the communications profession for an aerospace company as a ‘Corporate Communications Coordinator’. I’m excited to once again experience a whole new industry that I am sure will have its own unique set of demands.

It’ll be a quick transition to the Okanagan as I just finished working for Orano Canada in Saskatoon at the end of May and convocated from the Edwards school of Business in early June with a Bachelor of Commerce – Marketing Major.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the communication profession?

That the job description constantly evolves and every day is unique. Depending on the day you may be travelling to company or community events, working with employees from all different areas of the company, or developing various communication materials – it certainly does not get boring.
