Well, sh*t, it’s 2024 already!
To all IABC members and Saskatoon Communicators,
We’re well into January and past the time when retrospectives are shared, but the board and I would like to thank everyone who shared their thoughts in our end of year survey to close out 2023. We also want to share back some of what we heard and how that’s shaping our plans for 2024.
What we heard about 2023
To be honest, some of your comments were very direct and made us feel like sh%t. Other comments made us feel like THE sh$t! It was a real mix. Some of you felt we should offer more professional development events, and others felt the networking events were a welcome change from all of the virtual we’ve become accustomed to. Some felt we could use more intimate and local panels, while others thought we could bring in some bigger speakers and bring back some big events.
What you can expect in 2024
We’re going to have a little fun to start the year and share what we’re calling our sh@t list–the range of events, learning opportunities and get-togethers we’re planning based on your varied ideas.
January –Unholiday networking event: Link up with other communicators at Better Brother Brewing Co. over some drinks and appies to help bring you back from that post-holiday haze.
Tickets are on sale now!
February –Don’t Say Stupid Sh*t: In late February we’re bringing you a virtual panel on DE&I hosted by Kim Clark, author of The Fine Art of Not Saying Stupid Sh*t.
March – Share Your Sh%t–Cleaning Up Your Comms Plans: We’re planning a workshop where Saskatoon communicators can bring their communication plan drafts and share them to get feedback and advice in a safe space.
April – Navigating the Sh&t Storm–Finding your way through a communications crisis: Ask away as we bring together a local crisis communications panel who have seen it all.
June –You’re the Sh&t! After a highly successful renaissance of the Saskatchewan Awards for Communications Excellence (ACE), we’re bringing it back again–this time from Regina. Stay tuned for more details on what will truly be a province-wide awards program for communicators and marketers.
September – You’ve been asking for it and we’ve heard you loud and clear so CommuniCon–the one-day conference for comms pros, is returning! Warning: if you have the old URL for the conference, we didn’t renew it and it’s NSFW! Watch for a new website coming soon.
All joking aside, we’re absolutely looking forward to sharing an amazing 2024 with Saskatoon communicators!
Cam Zimmer,
IABC Saskatoon President
