IABC Saskatoon President’s Fall Message 2021
Dear IABC Saskatoon Members,
I am honoured to serve as chapter president for the 2021-2022 year. Thank you for being part of our IABC community – together, our board is committed to bringing value to you, our local chapter members.
Fall is a time of transition for many and, traditionally, marks the start of a new program year for our community of professionals – and, with it, new opportunities for you, our resilient and valued members, volunteers, and sponsors, to grow and evolve your careers with the support of like-minded communicators. Despite the challenges we face as communication professionals, especially over this past year, we will continue to learn, to advance our skills, to advocate for our profession, and to be stronger, together.
2021-2022 IABC Saskatoon Chapter Offerings
Our board met in September to discuss our strategic direction for the year and our directors are working hard to deliver offerings based on our members’ feedback gathered through the membership survey we sent out in spring.
Here’s what we heard from you:
More Connection
Networking and the importance of connecting with other communication professionals is still a top priority for many, and we will continue to provide opportunities to create these connections in close-knit, informal settings.
More Learning
It’s no surprise that professional development presented a strong theme in our members’ feedback, and is a primary focus of what we do. We will pull from your topic suggestions as we secure speakers and create content for the year. We also heard from more than 65% of those who responded that you are busier than previously – so we know that providing quality over quantity is key.
You can find out about upcoming events and offerings through our e-mail newsletter (you can sign up on iabcsaskatoon.com or email communications.iabcyxe@gmail.com to be added to the mailing list), IABC Saskatoon’s Facebook page, Twitter page, and LinkedIn page.
More Accreditation
We know that accreditation, whether obtaining or maintaining it, is a critical component for many of our members. Volunteering is a great way to get points toward maintaining your certification! You will earn 10 points just for volunteering on the Board – visit iabcsaskatoon.com/volunteer to apply for our current openings.
If you’re looking to get certified as a CMP or SCMP, we plan to hold a certification exam in spring. Please note that due to increased COVID-19 case numbers and limited interest to sit in October from those we’d connected with through our certification survey, we have decided to not go ahead with the October certification exam that was scheduled. For those who are still interested in being connected with others for a study group to prepare for a spring sitting, please email President.iabcyxe@gmail.com.
Questions, Concerns or Comments
We are always interested in hearing from our members. Please feel free to reach out to me at President.iabcyxe@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Melody Lynch
